Word from Senator Leahy's office today that Senators Leahy and Hatch are pushing the Senate to hotline S.2913, "The Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008" today or this weekend! There is a possibility that Leahy's Orphan Works bill may be tacked onto another economic bill related to current events and quickly passed first by the Senate and then by the House.

Senator Leahy has just released an amendment to his bill, but the amendment still does not include the Notice of Use (NOU) nor an archive of NOU filings. Without the Notice of Use provision, the Graphic Artists Guild continues to oppose the Senate Orphan Works bill, S. 2913

Look at MY caricatures before hiring me...

It is erroneous to say a caricature is a caricature is a caricature. I was just hired by some bankers after some of the many other satisfied customers of mine in their office recommended me. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, someone showed them only a sample of another artist's work, art that looks nothing like mine. Despite providing them with my website address and a sample of my work on the invoice they signed, the client is very unhappy to see the disparity in styles between my caricatures and the drawing they saw before. I was only given a week to draw 9 people. I'm pretty sure the other caricaturist they formed their expectations on was not so rushed.

Digital Caricatures NY for trade shows, parties & all events

To the best of my knowledge, since 2004, I have been the 1st & only full-time digital party CARICATURE artist. There are very few other caricaturists anywhere in the world doing anything similar to what I do. Almost none of them compare notes with me. Any who do tell me they do very few of their events digital. I do all of my events digitally. I have far more skill & experience than anyone else at doing hand-rendered digital event caricature drawings. I'm still waiting for anyone to tell me they're doing anything comparable. I would occasionally be able to get them some work if they do.

NY CARICATURES: Joan Rivers by Dale Gladstone

There's a little story with this caricature. I was asked to do this in the late 80s by someone in the business of doing celebrity impersonations for parties. Too bad I had not yet learned to collect deposits before beginning a project. When the performer's agent learned I would only license this art instead of selling it for the price he wanted to pay, he cancelled the order after the art was done. I didn't get paid, but they didn't get the art. I did end up with a portfolio piece that still holds up pretty well. It's not as if Joan Rivers & her surgeon's will allow her appearance to change anytime soon.
